Start Where You Are
Start where you are is our most important mantra. You’ll hear it over and over again on Style Me Medieval and with good reason. Attributed to Arthur Ashe, with the full quote of, “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can,” embodies the spirit of this page.
You don’t need to know it all. You don’t need to go out and buy everything. Many of our tutorials will be marked UPCYCLE! Specifically to be used with items you can thrift or may already have at home.

Upcycling, Recycling, and Natural Materials.
We take a realistic approach to materials and recycling. We feel that it’s important to do the best we can, and also understand that sometimes it just isn’t feasible to always make something new from something old, or to only use natural materials, which are easier on the environment. We recycle where we can, we use natural materials when possible, and we do our best to minimize our impact. Sometimes we will be able to do it more than others and that’s okay.
The important thing is to be kind to the environment when you can. We can be a net-gain for the world, even if we aren’t perfect. Use what you have available and have fun with it.
